These injection procedure come in the general category of "filler injections". As the name implies, it is intended to fill in well-defined depressed areas of the body (used especially in the face). My personal choice of injection material for most defects is fat (harvested from the patient). For finer lines, I use the more modern artificial materials (such as Dermalive™). 

The injection procedure takes a few minutes to perform (not including harvest of fat). The patient goes home or to the hotel shortly after the procedure.
